No revelations, no corrections, no edification.
It was always boring that sometimes reading it served as a sleeping pill.
It was so discouraging that I never looked forward to having my Bible study because I felt nothing special was going to happen. But I am glad I didn't give up totally.
There were days I would just pray alone and avoid studying my Bible but am glad that despite the feeling of not getting anywhere, I didn't give up, I stayed with the word. Even when it wasn't making sense and when I dozed off.
I thought I was getting everything right. You know the usual "pray before you read your Bible" thing? I was doing that but I wasn't getting any results.
But by the mercies of God I was able to know what I was really doing wrong which are; When praying before studying my Bible, I only said those prayers with my mouth but I wasn't intentional about it.
I wasn't seeing the Holy Spirit as a person who is capable of interpreting the word of God to me. I was only using my human understanding to interpret scriptures that was why it felt like a novel.
You can't study the Word of God without the WORD (JESUS) Himself .
Another mistake I made then was, not staying long with the scripture. I just read through without jotting down in my note pad.
You don't meditate or study the scripture that way. When meditating you pause and think on what you've read trusting the Holy spirit to grant you understanding.
If you are still finding it difficult to understand, try praying in the spirit for some minutes then continue. Light will come.
We've got to stay with the Word of God then LIGHT will come.
It is also advisable to use other translations. If you are having a hard time interpreting or even reading King James Version both old and new try other versions like The Message Translation, Amplified translation, New Living Translation and others. It's understandable that not everyone can read KJV so please stick to the version of the Bible that you can flow with.
Having said all, just like a friend of mine once said " just stay with it, light will come" ( not the bulb light o 😄but Revelation) I pray that God will grant us the revelational knowledge of His word in Jesus name. Amen
Yours sincerely,
